Kotanukian Handcrafted Tanuki “Fukufuku Black”
One of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, Shigaraki ware is a traditional craft that has been handed down in Shigaraki Town, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture.
Among its many creations, the tanuki (raccoon dog) figurine stands as its most iconic symbol.
With its round, endearing form and gentle, soulful eyes, this figure captures hearts at first glance.
Since ancient times, the tanuki has been regarded as a lucky charm—its name playing on the phrase “to surpass others” (ta-nuki, meaning “to outdo others”).
It is often displayed to invite prosperity in business, good fortune, financial luck, and family harmony.
